    Moving software

I'm upgrading my PC to windows 8 and putting an SSD in charge of my system, is it possible to save some bits of software (specifically steam games) over, as with my motherboard changing and it being a fresh install not an upgrade (for various reasons) most will go missing. Is it a stupid idea to try and save some files? thanks in advance.

Steam gives you the option to backup your games https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...8794-yphv-2033

    I wouldn't use that function.

Just copy the entire steam folder and paste. Once moved and you start Steam up again, you may have to download a few MB's for a few files per game that will take a few minutes or less while backup takes much longer to do.

Remember to save the "SAVE" folders, these are elsewhere on your computer.

I have and always used the Steam Backup and restore function, I never have any luck with that copying of the steam folder.
