For some minor stuff, it's a god send!
for my Dad's PC, with 4000 new fonts, all designed for Windows 95 and earlier, it was heaven sent
Cheers fella...it was hard to find the Wizard tho. System Restore itself shows in System Properties but there is no link to the wizard there...just shows the HDD's and the fact its working.
Have to go Start, ?Help and Support, then on the right choose Undo Changes with System Restore.
Once I'd found that, what a cool thing
Even comes with a calendar, the dates with a restore point are in Bold, the things that have happened interms of Installs listed, and thats how I found when he'd put it all in
Just.....lovely.
Is there a way to have a shortcut link on the desktop , for that Wizard? I tried to right click the link but no go
It would be worth its weight in gold. Then,I could get him to Make a Restore Point before installing anyything. Infact...I will use it on MY PC too

It is truely fantastic. It has saved my bacon a few times in the past. I always make sure I have a couple of points at known stable points and one before I do anything exciting/ brave!
Not around too often!

So if you'd upgraded a 2k install %systemroot% = winnt.
If you'd done a standard XP install it'd be Windows
If you'd done some wierd mutha fudger install, where you'd installed it to a folder called fred on a drive called Z:, %systemroot% will find it.
Do you REALLY think I'm gonna send you or your Dad near the registry?
na Zak it isn't a registry entry, %systemroot% is a variable that applies to where the windows folder is installed, in that form it basically reads where windows folder is and can be applied to any system
just replace it with a path to where you are installed
or you drag the shortcut from all programs\accessories\system tools\system restore to the desktop
