    1 Missing memory [Windows 7] & Desktop [#10]

I thought this would be the most suitable place to post this. I have a 128GB SSD and everything was going fine with it for the past 6 months. I use just for Windows 7 and programs I use, whislt my HDD is used for games, documents and other files etc.

I had around 70GB (Depending when I used CCleaner, I could have 71GB, or 69GB). But today, its randomly shot down to 61GB. I'v had a look around on websites and noticed the hibernation setting. I do have it turned off in windows, but not through the cmd. When I do it through cmd, I get up to 67GB. I just don't think thats the problem though since I'v had it on for 6 months.

So I'm trying to look around for solutions. My temp folders are clear, but I noticed in this location

    C:\ProgramData\CheckPoint\ZoneAlarm\Logs

There is a ZALog2012.12.23.txt file which is 4GB. But I still don't think this is causing it as that was last week.

    Any suggestions/help?

    http://www.uderzo.it/main_products/space_sniffer/

There is also one called "Space monger" which is good, but their website died a few weeks back and it looks like they've bit the dust

Space sniffer is also good though and should show you very clearly where your space is. Make sure you right click -> run as admin though if you're using UAC, as it won't be able to read all areas of the disk if not.

Sheck out Windirstat - very handy graphical representation of disk usage, free and also requires no installation. http://windirstat.info/

    System Restore?

I generally just use the free version of TreeSize to hunt for big files.

    The results in Space Sniffer

I just had an update and after doing that, that took away a good 4GB once I cleared my Temp folder :/

Don't see what the problem is since you still have plenty of space, but if you want to get back what you've lost...
First off hunt down all of your temp folders and empty them.
Then run a disk cleanup in admin mode (files from all users on this computer) and remember to clean your system restore and shadow copies in the second tab.
Finally visit your documents or downloads folders and clean any useless downloads you have there.

Usually does the trick for me

    Re: Missing memory [Windows 7]

I normally do most of those, but I'll do those again.

I think it may be something to do with Visual Studio 2010 updates. About half off them get stuck on the install process.

Edit: So after doing the above, I'm up to 61 GB now, which it was down to 56GB with some stupid Update with didn't install. Always happens with Visual Studio.

Is there other temp folders apart from these?
    C:\Windows\Temp
    C:\Users\Jake\AppData\Local\Temp

Also, is it save to delete this?
    C:\ProgramData\CheckPoint\ZoneAlarm\Logs\ZALog2012.12.23.txt. The file is 4GB.

    Re: Missing memory [Windows 7]

Yes, it's safe to delete the ZA log file....might be worth seeing if you can limit the size within the app.

For temp folders......open a cmd prompt and type "SET"...you should see in the list TMP and TEMP, check what directories they are set to.

#9 Slowness after installing Office (#1 Missing memory [Windows 7])

    Thanks again!

So as everything is going fine, and I installed Office 2010, My PC randomly started to go sluggish. No idea why. I'm un-installing it, then re-installing it again.

Edit: Same, it was fine for 2 hours then the slowness came :/

    Win 7 Desktop

I didn't want to make a new thread, but this happened when the file was selected, then a new file was moved onto the desktop. Its nothing major isn't it?
