    SpyBot in Live Server Rooms?

I've just been thinking through a few bits and pieces today and figured that really something like Spybot (the teacup windows watcher) would be pretty useful in a live server room system, With the way windows can get exposed, processes trying to change the registry etc would be picked up by this program and stopped.

Anyone doing this?, or recommend what they think is best to do to protect windows based systems.

ITS a serious question and the company in question won't go to Linux

Depends - Most vunerablities come through IE. Why would anyone be browsing the web on a live server?
2k3 server forces just about everything to run in the restricted zone, meaning you have to manually add stuff into the trusted zone for it to run. Personally, I just don't use IE on the server. Get what ever you need from a workstation, transfer it across to a server.

This is the problem Jiff, the issue is never with me, as a developer i'm pretty concious of what happens with live services, so i'm always careful to ensure i don't put systems at risk, however life is not perfect and some people including support people at companies i work at are crap. (lucky my new job has got one of the best support people i've met - other than you and moby of course)

But at places i contract at the state i found a server room in yesterday was appaling...

A web server compromised with 21 trojans of 4 different types..... Its a win2k server system, nothing will change that i'm afraid. I'm tempted to recommend to the directors that as they can't trust their staff then they should put spybot on it to protect themselves from their staff.

IIS lock down, Deny local log in for non administrators, restrict admin group, beat staff with large stick.

    Usually works....
