About LinkBackshi guys i'm just looking for some software that will copy and backup my dvd films, can anyone suggest a good program, as i take it nero 6 does not do this..

You will need more than 1 bit of software for this my good man. Get DVD Decrypter first off. This programme lets you rip a DVD to your computer, and if the film is small enough to fit on 1 SL DVD then you call also use it to burn the DVD.
Chance's are that it won't fit on to one SL DVD, most films won't. So this is where the second bit of software comes in. DVD Shrink, with this you can take off the extras, soundtracks and so on to make the film small enough to fit a single DVD.
Both these bits of software are freeware as far as I know, there also very easy to use.

i forgot to say i have dvd clone and xcopy, but they failed to back up any of my 'newer' films
I have found dvd xcopy to be pretty good actually, although not done many "recent" backups.

yeah i have clone and it comes up with the same msg as x copy
I can only assume there is a Southampton in the US as making backups of films is illegal in the UK

I wasn't aware that it was quite so cut-and-dried as "making backups of films is illegal in the UK". The movie industry would very much like it to be, and the legal mumbo-jumbo on the DVD would suggest that it is against the terms of your licence. Of course, distributing your "backup" to a third party would certainly be illegal. But just taking a copy for your own private use and storing the original in a safe place is not - as far as I am aware - illegal.
I am not a lawyer, though, so don't rely on my opinion if you get arrested!

Its illegal to copy DVDs, games etc in this country it is the "cut and dry" but I dont think ist a crinimal offence, Im no lawyer either so i could be wrong, but the movie producer could take you to court for it. It gets confused by the fact that its legal to make backups in the US and most the stuff we get comes from the US.
The UK does not have the backup laws that the USA has, therefore it IS illegal to make any backlup of your films in UK, for any reason.
US says that once you own an original that you can back it up to use one copy at a time in any of your different "media" players, not in UK.

well when it's my copy, i don't have a problem with backup's crazy laws again!

erm why backup your films anyway?, i mean if the disc breaks due to over usage you could return to the shop and get a replacement. If you scratch it then you should take more care of the discs.
Moving a DVD from a disc you own to a machine would certainly be viewed synically by any judge if you where unfortunate enough to go to court.
