    XP SP2 Reboot issue

    Hi All,

Recently installed XP SP2 onto my machine (XP2600, nForce2 mobo, 1GB RAM), and it all seemed to work fine for a few days. Then I turn it on and wham - it constantly reboots. I originally blamed the power supply (see my thread in Hexus Help forum), but after doing a few web searches I reckon this is an unusual XPSP2 bug.

Has anybody else on here experienced this, and how can I revert to a per-SP2 status. I can't use recovery console as I get a 'BAD_POOL_CALLER' error whenever I try to do anything from the WinXP CD. Trying Last Known Good Config also fails, as does booting to safe mode.

I know it was dumb of me not to make any backups of hy HDD, as well as only having one partition with everything in it (believe me I've learnt my mistake), but I'd quite like not to have to reformat my HDD is possible.

    Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated!

I can't actually get into Windows. The machine just constantly reboots when it gets to the WinXP splash screen.

have you tried Safe Mode... usually can access it by pressing F8 at startup.

When you say you've tried the recovery console, you mean that you have booted up from the Windows XP CD, and tried to repair the installation? If it's coming up with an error before you can even get to that stage, it will probably be a hardware problem.

iMc - safe mode doesn't work either - I just get the reboot thing.

mike - I had a bad feeling it may be something like that. The only thing I can think is it may be the 9800Pro I installed a month or so ago. Luckily the mobo has integrated graphics - I'll just try pulling a component at a time and see what happens.

Nope - not the graphics card, and I swapped the RAM in and out as well - no luck,

It wouldn't be so bad if I had used FAT32 for the file system, at least then a Win98 boot disk would get me to the command prompt so I could uninstall SP2. Thing is I used NTFS! - Does anybody know where I could get a boot disk that will allow me to access the command prompt for an NTFS partition?

Just get backing up and format, clean install time. It's a goner.
