Kubuntu 12.10 No Internet :(

Just installed kubuntu. No internet access whatsoever, motherboard doesnt even appear to be powering the ethernet cable (yes its on wired).
Network settings wont allow me to configure anything other than the VPN's, so I have no idea what to do.
Help please!

As I thought, no ethernet NIC there. What network card are you using?

Just my motherboard, I don't have a network card.

i had this problem when i updated i went into network settings from the bottom bar icon for network and made sure wired was set to automatic connect in the settings hope this helps Kubuntu Network Configuration

can you type the following commands into the terminal

lspci

lsusb

lsmod

EDIT: if it's the machine in your sig then you are going to need to build a kernel module

It is the machine in my hexus build, I'm trying to dual boot.

Thanks, but I the problem i'm having is that i cant get into any tab beyond "VPN".

ok try this

grab the moduale from here

http://www.room203.org/atl1c.ko

copy it to a flash drive

then move it to your home folder

then in the terminal type this

sudo su 
cp atl1c.ko /var/modules/3.5.0-17-generic/atl1c.ko
modprobe atl1c.ko

I should note that this is build for a 64bit kernel

yes, input password, which i then did and it changed to super user (at least as far as i could work out)

Does the directory /var/modules/3.5.0-17-generic exist? A quick look at the documentation available suggests that you may need to be copying to /lib/modules rather than /var/modules is all

Where would that be located? Couldn't find it in the home folder, I tried to make it there too but that didnt work (make the folders and rerun the code)
