    Exchange Help

Hey guys, im after a bit of help!

Im busy working to resolve a problem on a Windows 2003 Small Business Server (Standard), what is happening is all the email are going stright to status Queued in Exchange, they aint even trying to be sent! Everything is set up correctly, it just decided to stop working today! Ive flushed the queue so there is nothing there, and re-setup Exchange but nothing has worked so far! Altho when i try and make changes to the Email through the SBS Console it stops on the Email Config. Anyone have any ideas what this could be? Its driving me crazy! Oh, and the email is routed via DNS

    Cheers,

    Craig

First of all, how's the network set up? Two nics or one?
Secondly, when you re-set up exchange, just what did you do?

The reason for asking is SBS2003 tends to rely on the wizards.
So.... first thing, re-run the Internet connection wizard - yes, I'm sure the net is working just fine, but it goes through to cover exchange too.

Next, hows your DNS? You got the additional tools installed? if so, open command prompt and go for:

Netdiag /debug /test: DNS (had to add the space between : and D otherwise get a )!

Should show up any DNS issues you have

Thirdly, who's the ISP and do they allow mail relay?

@ Moby-Dick: Yep, this is for outgoing

    @ Jiff Lemon:
First of all, how's the network set up? Two nics or one? - Two Nics, One for their lan, the other going to the router.

Secondly, when you re-set up exchange, just what did you do? - Ran the Internet Setup Wizard (It failed to start the SMTP service again at the end), then i checked all of the settings against our own server, and then started up the SMTP Service manually.

Next, hows your DNS? You got the additional tools installed?: No additional tools installed, and when i try to run Netdiag i get; 'Netdiag' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

Thirdly, who's the ISP and do they allow mail relay?: BT Are, and we have never had any problems with them so far!

    Thanks, appriciate the help

Additional tools are generally found in the support folder of the install CD.

Are the exchange services all running? Is internal mail working ok?

You tried relaying all your outgoing mail through BT? Under connectors, select the properties of the SBS conector. Under general, forward all mail to smtp.btopenworld.com (You may want to check that though - As BT use a multitude of SMTP servers depending on which particular bit of BT your actually with)

Right then, im actually sitting infront of the server now! There are 493 domains in the queue, and 20 messages per queue apart from a few which have a few less, or about 3,000 messages to go! Could this be a virus? As the guys who work here havent sent emails to every domain that is in this list! Im busy un-installing Panda and about to put Sophos on, and ill give the network a good 'ol scan. Ive disabled Outbound mail for the time being. Does this sound like a virus?

    Cheers,

    Craig

PS. The main domain with just over 3,000 emails, all of the emails are being sent by the servers postmaster, bug or virus?

    Cheers,

    Craig

Either virus or you're an open relay/compromised account.
