Multi Monitor setup making me grind my teeth...

I have my main (1920x1080p) computer monitor which I use for everything basically. But I also have a 720p tv hooked up which I only use for watching videos, and playing any games that I use my Xbox controller with. I can't figure out how to get it so that I can have my web browser or desktop running on my monitor, while the tv has a game being played on it. I've tried making the tv the primary display in the nvidia control panel, but games still launch on my monitor. I've tried the windows key + shift + left or right arrow thing but that don't work either. The tv screen just goes black while the game continues to run on the monitor. I really don't want anything running on the tv other than the game because the tv screws with my desktop as the resolution is different. Gets really annoying have to readjust everything each time! Also, some of the tv's pixels are hidden underneath plastic so I find it difficult navigating windows properly.

So to summarize - All I want to do is use my computer on my monitor as normal, but get some full screen games to run on the tv, leaving the monitor free to be used for other tasks.

Any ideas? First multi display setup I've had so I'm lost here :/ Cheers.

Edit: Actually I thought I'd set the tv as the primary but I didn't. I just tried it however and it still messes with the monitor setup.

Most games launch in an exclusive graphics mode which means you won't be able to use the desktop anyway. I think the only way you'd be able to do this is to find games that will let you run them in windowed mode then run them in a maximized window on your TV. Anything without a windowed mode is going to take exclusive control of your graphics, which means no desktop...

Re: Multi Monitor setup making me grind my teeth...

I find mine a bit hit and miss. Sometimes I get a black desktop on the 2nd monitor, sometimes not - haven't worked out why yet. Either way, I agree that attempting to click on the desktop in any way totally screws everything over.

Inclined to agree that maximised may be the best solution.

Ah yeh, the windowed way. I could try that. Do you guys know if windowed games run slower than when in full screen? I've heard that before. Just seems odd that this is the situation seeing as you can alt+tab out of games to use the desktop anyway. Don't see why I can't just run them on seperate screens...

Some games allow you to select what monitor games start on, also some games I believe you can edit the config.ini to tell it where to start on.

Well at the moment it's the first Dead space that I'm playing through. Can't seem to do that with this game. Unless there is some line I can add to the config to make this happen?
