    Vi Editor Help

I'm running Debian version 3, and having some problems with the vi editor. The vi site isn't much help, or atleast I don't understand the faq. Tried emac and it says it's an invalid bash command

Can someone tell me how to save and exit vi editor, or atleast tell me another write program that's easier to use? Thanks
