Aero stopped working after watching DVD

    Hi all

I noticed today that I've lost all transparency effects and thumbnail previews on the taskbar. This extends to the other user accounts on the computer as well. I've tried updating the graphics driver (latest Catalyst version for Radeon HD 5700) and running the Aero troubleshooter. This tells me that the Desktop Window Manager has been disabled, and that the checker has reenabled it. Obviously this has no effect. I've also tried a registry fix to force-enable Aero, but this doesn't work either. I can select Aero themes from display options, and Aero Peek is enabled (although the selection box is greyed out). I'm also having trouble starting Steam, and the AMD Vision Engine Centre won't start.

It may be a conincidence, but the last thing I did when using the system last was watch the Skyfall DVD.

I'm out of ideas, short of disabling and reenabling the video card.

Update: have tried removing and reinstalling several times. I'm now stuck with a display which is off centre, due to the Vision Control Centre not starting I can't recentre the display.
