Where have you encountered it? Oracle are a database company by origin but have recently acquired Java. Are you asking in relation to databases or Java?

    Re: Oracle system base

Ok, if it's the JD Edwards that I'm thinking of, then they are an Enterprise Resource Planning Software company so they create software that's used to do things like enable companies to integrate systems between different companies, so it is commonly used in things like supply chain management and it does things like allows manufacturers to get the ordering processes automated by allowing their suppliers to see what resources they are using, what their inventory levels of resources are and when more will be required. This in turn allows suppliers to plan for the materials they need in order to ensure that they have enough available to maintain supplies or to reduce supply where the manufacturer is making fewer finished products.

Oracle bought PeopleSoft in 2005 and PeopleSoft acquired JD Edwards in 2003, so I'm guessing that the Oracle system base that you are asking about is something to do with the running of some ERP software you or your company might be using.
