Installing software on a new pc.

Hi there guys just wondering if you guys could give me a list of software to install on my new s939 3500+ pc before I take it online, ordering the pc now so have to obtain the software also Many thanks.

Windows xp btw, i've heard I should stick to SP1 as SP2 has serious issues that only serious councilling can resolve.

you hear lots of FUD from people scared of change.

SP2 is fine on the three XP machines I oversee.

all you _NEED_ before taking it online is a decent firewall app (e.g. sygate personal, free at smb.sygate.com) or... service pack 2

Bear in mind that there IS an issue with Athlon64 machines and Data Execution Prevention under SP2 with certain apps/hardware; http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp for details.

Other than that, you shouldn't have a problem.

A good plan would be to slipstream SP2 into the Win XP installation

While your about it you might as well get Firefox as well and some antivirus software (if you havent already got it) such as AVG Free edition. They will soon come in useful .
