    Re: blu ray player program

I'm interested in this also as I'm looking to buy a blu ray drive for my HTPC. But I can't get clear info on what type of software included and whether or not there's any extra cost.

    Re: blu ray player program

There was a thread about this some months ago but I can't find it. I'm by nop means an expert so someone may be along later to correct me.

AFAIK, neither WMC or VLC support Bluray playback. Bluray drives generally come with PowerDVD or similar, but I have heard that these are generally only Lite or trial versions and if you want to run a Bluray player you're going to have to fork out for a licensed copy of a software player. AFAIK, neither WMC or VLC support Bluray playback.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

    Re: blu ray player program

You've got very few choices for Blu-Ray player software:

All of them are pretty expensive to buy.

You could well be correct about the lack of DTS - it's common for OEM versions of these apps to have many features disabled, which only the most expensive versions have turned on.

Take a look at the three above, and pick the one you like.

    Re: blu ray player program

I know VLC can do it with the keys database and library, search for VLC blu-ray. But now that BD+ has made an appearance, we will have to wait for that so we can use more modern blu-ray discs.

I have no idea about DTS, but ACTIVATION08 is a code that can be used to get Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre cheaper.

It's worse than that. When they release the new version, they stop updating the old version's DRM keys, so the old versions can't play new discs.

What a rip off. Gutted as I wanted to be able to run the odd blu ray off my HTPC. There's no way I'm paying £75 every 12 months or so.

Looks like I'll have to rip a blu ray to my server in future if I want to watch it. What a pain.

Edit: just noticed link to Potplayer. I'll give it a try.
