    Whats the best WinXP software for copying a HDD?

    Whats the best WinXP software for copying a HDD?

    Basically, I need to swap my main HDD with another one but instead of doing a complete reinstall of everything on the new drive, I just want to copy everything across from the old drive - basically an exact copy inc settings, cookies, data, temp files etc etc

    The software needs to work from Windows (rather than DOS) if possible.

    easily done. Get norton ghost. Backup the whole drive into a .gho compressed file of the whole drive and then on the other one just extract it.

    Unfortunately i don't think you can do it from windows as there are certain files impossible to copy whilst in windows (iirc)

    Acronis True Image is great unless you have special disk controllers or drives. Anything "normal" (read IDE) will be fine.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Surely that doesn't copy a whole drive image inc registry, data, drivers etc?

    Thanks for all the tips.

    Got Acronis Drive Image in the end - it's excellent - very clear and easy to use. Excellent windows interface too and does exactly what it says on the packet.

    Excellent stuff! I agree that it's great.

    Now try getting it to detect a Fast Track SX4's RAID 5 array!
