    XP and 2000

    Hi,

I have XP installed on my only hard drive which is formatted in NTFS. I know you can't dual boot operating systems in NTFS from the same physical drive but if I buy another hard drive can I format that to NTFS and have 2000 on that?
Am i right in thinking on boot up you have a few seconds to choose which IDE to boot from?

    Thanks for looking

Sure you can install another drive with ntfs and win2000.But as for the option of which IDE HDD to boot from i don't think so.It off course gives you an option when you boot from CD-Rom but i've never seen it doing so with IDE HDD drive's.

    Hi,
    Sorry I was a bit mis-leading.
I thought if you had 2 Microsoft operating systems installed on one computer is asks you which one you want to boot too?

Yes you can, if it dosn't do it automatically, you can edit the boot.ini file for more boot options, it's very easy to do so i'll just say Google or take a look at the boot.ini file yourself, it's pretty much self explanatory from whats already in there. Any particular reason why you wan't both operating systems?

    ...but why?

It'll take up HDD space, and if its a software compatibility problem, try running it in compatability mode for win2000.

Win XP has a greatest resemblance to 2000, not to mention features from ME 98 and 95. You might as well use XP only, or grab Linux and get a pretty Grub bootloader.

If you learn XP like the back of your hand, you'll know 2000 like it and the back of your foot too.
