Stuck using fdisk in gentoo install.

    lo folks,

    i need help!

I have a new 40Gb maxtor HDD i want to put gentoo on, it's unpartioned etc. Right, i go into the gentoo install and type:
    fdisk /dev/hda
    and get the following:
You will not be able to write the partition table.
Note: sector size is 2048 (not 512)
Device contains neither a valid DOS partition table, nor sun, SGI or OSF disklabel.
Building a new DOS disklabel. Changes will remain in memory only, until you decide to write them. After that, of course, the previous contents won't be recoverable.

Warning: invalid flag 0x0000 of partition table 4 will be corrected by w(rite).

HELP i have partitioned drives before, but not with fdisk and i am confused.

    Cheers

    Dan.

this is a warning - it means no partitions are defined

    do "print"

it will show you no paritions defined

use "n" to create a new partition
and "t" to toggled it to type "82" or "83" linux and linux swap

then use "w" to write this info to the disk

next time you do fdisk /dev/hda you will not see this warning.
    It is Inevitable.....
