    Unhappy pop3trap.exe slowing PC

I've just turned on my computer to find that it is vastly slower than usual. I opened up task manager, and I found that a files called pop3.exe is taking up 99% of the CPU . Now I don't want to delete or stop this file from running, because I believe it is responsible for scanning my email for viruses. So 2 questions:

    1. Should it be running, even though I don't have outlook express open and so am not downloading email ?

    2. Is there anyway to speed up my computer?

I should also note that the only changes I have recently made to my computer is downloading firefox, which I did last night, but that can't be it can it because so many people think it's great !

It appears that when you aren't doing anything it will churn your CPU cycles. When you start to use your CPU for something else, it should give over the CPU time to the other processes.

That's all well and good, but I've had this computer (with Pc-cillin) for a few months now, and it's not really had this problem before.

Have you checked the priority of the process in task manager?

It might need to be knocked down a setting.

Why are those better than pc-cillin? Why should I have them (other than they're free!)?
