No response from USB mouse/keyboard with some boot programs w/ a 970 chipset MB

I wasn't sure where to put this, but here is the situation (read closely);

New AMD 970 based MB w/ USB mouse & keyboard (legacy USB is enabled)
Ok while in the O/S
Ok while in the UEFI BIOS
Ok while using Partition Manager boot disc (not the only example)
Not Ok while using GParted boot disc (one example, but there was another program where this behavior existed)
I am using a USB KVM switch (I haven't tried it without. With a nForce 570 chipset it works fine)

Within two seconds (or so) after I see the main screen, I loose response with the keyboard. I also notice the countdown stops at 29 seconds which seems to tell me the program isn't responding, not just the input device. I tried the current version and a oldser vesrsion version using a CD and a USB stick and the same thing.

Partition Manager works fine with mouse & keyboard.

Any ideas?

Have you tried with another keyboard and directly connected?
It sounds like GParted is crashing rather than a keyboard problem. I would start by running memtest86+, preferably one of the recent release candidates. Have had some problems instantly crashing on APUs, but they seem better at finding memory problems if they do run.

I tried Partition Manager and after the initial menu screen the display goes black. I then tried True Image and the same thing, but with this it then reboots.
I think this is a display problem.
I will try a direct VGA cable instead of going through the switch and a DVI cable.

I have used this with with my nForce570 MB with no issue.

The issue is not the USB mouse and/or keyboard. It'd the loss of video after whatever different driver loads after the initial menu screen of these programs.
I bypassed the KVM switch and it didn't really make a difference. I also connected the DVI cable, same thing. It didn't matter if it was VGA or DVI.

Hard Drive Manager 2010 & True Image V11 do not work, but the older Partition Manager V8 does.
GParted V.12 works. I haven't tried Ultimate Boot CD or Hirens BootCD yet.

Anyway, anyone have a idea why this behavior and how to solve it (other than maybe using another video card (if that would matter)?

Did you run memtest86?

Is the BIOS up to date?

No on a memory test. Why/what does that have to do with the problem??
I'm not sure about the BIOS. ASRock doesn't make it easy to ID the BIOS version.

There isn't much running with the programs you are talking about. The BIOS has set the PC up and provides a simple video & keyboard driver, so if there isn't much else to cause compatability issues than the BIOS. Flaky programs can be caused by flaky RAM, hence the memtest. I have seen Windows run quite happily on machines with faulty ram, perhaps causing the odd blue screen that people accept as typical Windows.

Those are easy things to check and both suspect, so that is where I would start.

After many days of troubleshooting the problem is as follows;

When that optional AMD/UEFI mode (forgot what it is called) is on, only SATA port 5 is unaffected when in AHCI mode. If I switch to IDE, turn that boot option off or use port 5, the problem isn't there.
I tried different optical drives, different cables and different ports, but that is the situation. And only with certain bootable programs running off a optical disc.

You can't make this stuff up. :o
