Why the choice of operating system?

Hopefully this will just be a quick query.

I've just reformatted my laptop and am reinstalling XP Pro. However, after installation has completed, when its booting up it is giving me an option of XP Pro .... or XP Pro? What is the reason for this? And more to the point is there any way of preventing this from happening in the future?

Why id you've just installed one operating system is it giving you a choice of two - albeit the same operating system?

it thinks you have two - you must've installed on top of an old coy of xp rather than fully formatting.

to fix, open c:\boot.ini with notepad and delete an erroneous entry

Yup, just sorted it. I was wondering, as it happened on my pc at work.

That said, it was fully formatted so I don't know why it happened - but its sorted.
