Software to convert PDF files?

Guys and gals,
Sometimes at uni our lecture notes are in .pdf format. I like to make my own notes using a combination of the pdf notes and my own notes.

My question is does anyone know of any good free software to convert pdf files into a format that I can cut and paste from?

Any help much appreciated.

Depends how the document is set up - you can specify whether copying (and lots of other stuff) is allowed when you create a PDF.

If you are taking information from a PDF then if you download the full size Adobe reader [which is obviously free] you can select text from the articles you wish.

If however you want to encode in PDF, the best free program I have used is StarOffice by Sun. Which, if your a student is free Its very useful being able to put stuff straight into PDF.

PDF Creator is ideal for creating PDFs as you don't have to install all of Star Office. I can't recommend it enough. It's free as well

openoffice will also save as pdf, and is free for full corporate use by all & sundry

or cutepdf for windows, which adds a pdf printer (based on ghostview)

I think he's looking to convert PDFs to another format rather than create them.

You should be able to copy and paste from pdf's using the adobe reader unless the documents you are reading expressly deny you that function (part of the save process in the full acrobat).

Not sure if you can with just acrobat reader, but with the full version of acrobat you can just (dependant on permissions) save it as another format(.doc,.html,etc) with the save as option, not sure acrobat reader has it though.
Seems to work well enough here, its not 100% perfect but its pretty close.

one of my mates was looking at these some time back, and i think he stumped for openoffice (mainly cuz it was on the front of a mag!) lol
