Extracting files extremely slow on Windows

Hi guys I have experienced this for ages but its finally got too much for me, is this OS level or hardware issue? I have windows 8.1 and its present on all version of Windows OS, zipped files take an age to unzip with Windows own extraction tool it will sometimes start off fast then just crawl to a low speed of 100KB/s, happens on so many zips but the latest one is just Googles ADT bundle which is around 500MB.

This is extracting on a crucial M4 128gb SSD and I have an i5 2500k at 4GHZ... not exactly a snail machine so its annoying that extractions can take so bloody long.

    Any ideas?

    Difficult one.
Perhaps Windows's own unzipping is flawed ?
Try using WinRAR to extract the same archive and see if there's an improvement

I personally use 7zip for stuff like this which seems faster than Windows' built-in utility. Since you mentioned ADT, I decided to try it on both, Windows managed it in, well, TBH I gave up after a few minutes after the estimated time kept increasing. 7zip took 44 seconds.

So yeah, the Windows utility is just crap, it seems.
