I want to design my own desktop using paint. Does it matter how the image is saved? Bitmap, JPEG etc.
Thanks Littlewill

what do you mean by desktop , as in skin or as in a wallpaper if its a wallpaper it has to be saved as a jpeg wont work if its a bmp.

bmaps work to. Atleast they are on XP.
If your making a wallpaper you wont be able to do much with paint. Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro is what you need for this. If you want somthing thats free try "The Gimp".
If your onabout making a theme then paint wont do that. You will require a special program AFAIK.

Bmps will work, but ofcourse, if you are tight on RAM, it will take a bit of that to load it back in, that's why I prefer JPEGs because my system wouldn't cope with loading a 1024 x 768 Bmp every time![]()
s'true, XP likes most common img formats, its the previous interations that didnt like 'internet' formats, you needed to enable active desktop before you could use them.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
nice one .....
Good call.... click click...now on my dt
anything IE can see you can use for wallpapers :>
try and keep the filesize down though, using a 200mb image as a desktop wallpaper isnt gona do your system any good speed wise :/
if you wana create wallpapers, check googly for tuts and the same again if you wana delve into XP skinning, its not THAT hard iirc.
i just use aston shell, which was gona be another post, but if anyone hasnt looked at it and wants a new "feel" to xp, its greatdoesnt crash half as much as explorer too ( its basically and explorer replacement, allowing you todo a few more things on your desktop, and looks much nicer when setup fully too
)
er, if your northbridge fan is humming loudly, disconnect it. _dont_ kick the side of the case, it _will_ break it.
i know :/
