Windows 7 - Blue screen of death.

I left my 3 year old Compaq Presario CQ61 (running Windows 7) on, not doing anything, whilst I went to make a coffee.
On returning, I was just in time to see the dreaded blue screen of death vanishing, so I have no idea what it said.
    The laptop then automatically shutdown
I switched it on, to be greeted with top left hand corner
    "A disk read error occurred
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"
and all that does is cycle round to display this message again, & again ad nauseum.
So as it was starting up one time, I pressed Esc for the Startup menu.
Option 2 said 100% of System Memory tested OK, but on Primary Hard Disk Self Test, it stuck on 00% complete.
I could only exit by powering off laptop.
I suspect that the disc has crashed. Is there any hope?

I'd agree - very likely that you're looking at a disk replacement.

Agreed it sounds like the disk has died. Try reseating it just to see if its comes to life but don't hold out too much hope
