windows 8.1 stuck on windows logo on startup.

Hi all. Last night I went to play dayz and it was stuttering a bit so I decided to restart my pc.

I get as far as the windows logo and spinning dots but no further. After reseting or powering off manually and powering on again it start diagnosing my pc which after leaving for over an hour I get to the screen when I can restart or click advanced. After clicking advanced I then choose troubleshoot and at this point the pc freezes. What I am trying to do is atheast try and boot into safe mode.

Grab your Windows 8.1 install disc and boot from the CD. Once you have select the language + keyboard and clicked next, there should be an option to "Repair your computer" in the bottom left corner. Click it and select troubleshoot, advanced option and click on startup repair to see if Windows 8.1 able to fix your startup. If that does not work and you want to boot into safe mode, the next steps are tricky if you are not familiar with Windows command or operations. Do the same thing as above but after clicking on Advanced option select Command prompt.

In your command prompt type bcdedit /enum to list your ID for boot. In my example virtual machine my Windows boot loader section for Windows 8.1 is called {default}. If you dual boot, you may have other options as well so please make sure the ID you selected is the primary one.



In the command prompt enter bcdedit /set {ID} safeboot minimal where the ID is the boot Identifier. For example mine is {default} so it will be bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal and you should get "The operation completed successfully". Exit command prompt and restart your PC, please make sure you remove your Windows 8.1 CD and you should be able to boot into safemode.

Did you try to boot into safe mode and see if it boots through safe mode? I would try that and then try to restore windows to an earlier point (possibly update gone wrong)
