Catalyst 14.1 and BF4 Mantle incoming

Looks like they are just going to scrape the January promise by getting it out later today (BF4 patch - January 30th, at 4:00AM EST). They did push it out a little early as the release notes show a couple configs not ready for Mantle, but gains on CPU constrained setups seem to be quite large. HSA support and updated frame pacing is also coming in Catalyst 14.1.

Given my laptop is one which would not benefit from Mantle as yet, anyone going to test it?

Damn, Thursdays is my BF night......broken gaming tonight

And the biggest joke is now they are saying it only alleviates bottlenecked CPUs.....so no gains for maxed GPUs.

That was always the case. If DirectX was holding back your GPU then Mantle is going to vastly reduce that software bottleneck.

Actually the greatest gains was for top end GPU's running on lower CPU's

    CPU: AMD A10-7700K with Radeon R9 290X - 40.9% improvement at 1080p, 40.1% improvement at 1600p.

    CPU: Intel Core i7-4960x with Radeon R7 260x - 2.7% improvement at 1080p, 1.4% improvement at 1600p.

    CPU: AMD A10-7700K and Radeon R9 290X - 319% improvement at 1080p, 281% improvement at 1600p.

    CPU: Intel Core i7-4960X and Radeon R7 260X - 5.1% at 1080p, 16.7% at 1600p.
So I'm at the lower end with a OC 8350 CPU but only running on 7950 GPU's

Re: Catalyst 14.1 and BF4 Mantle incoming

Yes, the IB-E results with a low end GPU is only there as an example. The usualCrowd™ on the AT forums seem to be concentrating on that again and ignoring the result with the 290X:

    Core i7-4960X CPU + R9 290X GPU
1080p, Ultra Preset, 4xAA: 9.2% improvement with Mantle
1600p, Ultra Preset, 4xAA: 10% improvement with Mantle
    Core i7-4960X CPU + R7 260X GPU
    1080p, Ultra Preset, 4xAA: 2.7% improvement
    1600p, Ultra Preset, 4xAA: 1.4% improvement
Pity that Crossfire is not supported yet with this version of Mantle. It's pretty much a proof-of-concept beta.

Oh, and the 14.1 driver now brings Eyefinity and 4K crossfire framepacing to non-XDMA GCN cards (Cape Verde, Pitcairn and Tahiti).

Re: Catalyst 14.1 and BF4 Mantle incoming

Still problems with GCN1.0 cards? Hopefully will be sorted soon, but worrying that they're so much extra effort than 1.1 - almost makes it look like 1.0 missed something that you really needed 1.1 to fix. Then rebranding 1.0 cards as the same generation as 1.1 cards has just made things really confusing.
