Well, since everyone suggests it, Ive gone and installed Firefox 1.0...

Ive come from Opera, and there are several things im already missing...

1) The password manager in FF is crap!! Is there a plugin type thing that is as good as operas magic wand?? And then is it possible to have the passwords imported from Opera??

2) Is it possible to get FF to open several tabs on different pages at startup, once again like opera..??

3) Is there an autorefresh option??

4) Apart from being slightly faster, what other benefits are there??

firefox is a minimal, extensible browser. added functionality comes from extensions (tools, extensions, get more extensions). there are also advanced configuration settings available at about:config

firefox's interface is considerably less cluttered than opera's, the rendering engine is better, and (perhaps most importantly) it's a free, Free product. if you think it lacks something, file a wishlist bug against the mozilla.org bugzilla

Without extensions I find FF a little basic, but then it is a pretty small install.
I think it is perceived security and tabbed browsing that are the major benefits people like.


No clue about extra benefits over Opera, I must admit I didn't like it when I tried it.
Also not sure about password manager extensions for FF, I hate the idea of password-caching tools - convenience over security = bad.

I also don't know if TBE works with the release version of FF yet, I'm still on 1.0 RC1 - I might get round to upgrading it as there are a few niggly bugs still.

So does anyone know of any password managers.. Its mainly for online web games that i have to remember username and pw for.. and the standard pw thing is quite useless...

Another little thing.. how do i get the links that open a new window to open a new tab insted?

Click the mouse wheel/right click and select "open in new tab"

With TBE installed:
Tab / Tab Browser Extension Preferences / Use Tab / Links
"Links in Browser"

Personally I leave this as "Normal" but use "Links which refer to other site (sic)" as "Open in New Tab".
