    feedback on website

    Hi guys

I've finished phase 1 of my site design and now just need to really fill it with content and also code me own gallery All work has been done by mesen nothin stolen and no pansey plug ins photoshop. It is a site that will be used to show pictures that i take as a hobby and for my AS level course, and will hopefully manage to sell a few pictures through it. Domain name is bought and Im waiting for the nameservers to propagate, but it will be @ www.twilight-photography.co.uk soon

here it is, feel free to point out any bugs, or give me feedback in general

the images seem to exhibit a fair bit of jpeg compresison artefacting. can you lower the compression level, or use another format such as png? other than that, it's fine. simple, legible, works under firefox

Nice Simple design I like it

    However:

    1) In the mail content, the Line; Hi and Welcome; could do with padding down slightly, leaving a little space between the title.

    2) My biggest gripe when it comes to websites is validation

most of the validation things are just silly like not havin an alt for images....the title ones dont matter and have to be like that the way that they are included. Most of the w3c validation checks are silly anyway If it works it works, not found a browser it doesnt in yet.

    cheers for the advice tho

Alt tags do matter as they allow screen readers and search robots to better use your site. Especially important in title image as it's about the first piece of content anyone will get if they are parsing the HTML. Most of the W3C validation checks are anything but silly, there are the odd one or two that are over the top but in general they are very useful and valid checks

Adding to what Az said, ALT (im pretty sure its Alt and not "name" ) is essensial for people using text only browsers such as lynx .

dorza browsing that site with a text only browser would be entirely pointless, as it is a completely graphical site about graphics If someone cannot see the site's images then they may as well not be on the site if you get me

who said i was referring to that site. I was generalizing. Its still good practise to include ALTs i feel just incase your images screw up. By the way the design is very nice particularly that title image.

It's ok i suppose. I prefer websites which use the full width of the page though. Looks like the stereotypical website created by a web monkey though

It's nice, just needs that content now.

Ideally you should never put a link in until the content is ready, "Under construction" message really nark people off, but in your case if you left the links out we wouldn't be able to see what you're trying to achieve.

Only specific gripe is you're being inconsistent between saying its 'my' site and saying contact 'us'. Is it the site of a single person or are you trying for the more professional feel of a group or company, either is good, not both.
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.

Noticed you've used an email form on the last page - does this still work? Thought it got phased out with IE5 - if I'm right you'll need a bit of PHP in there to get it to work.

oh but it is a PHP form not a basic email form. just 'posts' to a php file using the mail function.
