I'm getting very annoyed with Firefox now

Whatever I do, it WON'T OPEN EXTERNAL LINKS IN A NEW WINDOW

I've changed every damn option imaginable in the standard options and the tabbed browser extension config.... SOmeone share some light on how I do this.

I hate it re-directing my current browser page when I click a link from Outlook, Msn, etc. A new tab will do, but a new window is preferable.

Yea, i've noticed this recently? Is it with the new rc1/1.0 version? Cause im sure it used to open a new window. It is v.annoying...

Can I suggest the Tabbrowser Preferences extension? Gives pretty granular control over how links and things open.

i just did a test, changing the specific option for this (tools, options, advanced, tabbed browsing, open links from another application in), and it works absolutely fine.

I've noticed when I double click a url in mIRC Firefox opens an http://*** link in a new tab but a www.*** link now opens a new window. Same thing happens for a mate too, all rather odd.

i suspect that's a mIRC issue rather than a firefox issue, mIRC was only recently modified to allow use of anything other than c:\progra~1\intern~1\iexplore.exe

It worked fine with Firefox 0.93 so I'd guess it was more a prob with Firefox than mIRC. Just waiting for the tabbrowser extension to get updated for 1.0 to see if it solves the problem.

I've tried Firefox and it's good but you should really try Avant Browser. It's just a lot better. It's like a new front end to IE as it's uses the same setting and favourites etc but then has it's own options. It pretty much does everything Firefox does and then tonnes more options.

no, it doesn;t. avant browser, myie2, crazybrowser, and all other ie based browsers, gain you NOTHING - you are still just as suceptible to viruses and exploitation as with the real IE.

I've used Firefox and it just doesn't give me control and features that I come to like in Avant. Ok so it's not as secure but I haven't had a problem with Viruses or such things as my machine is pretty secure and well patched. I'd still take the ease of use and extra features over the greater vulnerability.

what settings do you want? firefox is a minimal browser, you put extensions on to get extra functionality, rather than having it bloated to begin with
