Controlling my PC using a Nexus tablet

I understand this is possible on a mac with an ipad, and I had high hopes for chromecast being able to do this, and in fact I think it did, by some third party crack, until google prevented it. But at the moment I have my silent PC plugged into the tv by HDMI and use a wireless keyboard which is buggy and annoying. What I want to be able to do is for my PC to transmit its output basically onto the screen of my nexus so my nexus essentially becomes a touch screen controller for the TV so I can load my media, browse but have it on the big screen, directly mirrored from the Nexus. Is this possible?

Funnily enough I use that to log on to my parents computer to solve issues when they arise. However on a tablet that would be very buggy and way too small, the way it renders the remote computer? EDIT, I see there is an app, I will give this a try

Re: Controlling my PC using a Nexus tablet

There's plenty of VNC clients for Android (and lots of free VNC servers for windows/linux). It's an alternative to TeamViewer

If you are using XBMC, there are lots of "remote control" apps for tablets/phones that might do the job for you as well.

Re: Controlling my PC using a Nexus tablet

It sounds like you don't actually want VNC or similar, just a remote control app. what kind of media player are you using? If you're using XBMC you can get proper remotes, or other stuff just set up a DLNA server and player then control it using skifta or similar.

Re: Controlling my PC using a Nexus tablet

I have used VNC free edition server on my PC and bVNC on my Acer Iconia. It works after a fashion, and as it is free there is no harm trying. Don't expect the tablet to keep up with real-time video though (or to display anything at all if you use Media Center full screen).

    Teamviewer
Microsoft RDP client if you're using specific Windows versions.
    VNC Viewer
    Splashtop Remote

Try them all for free and see which you prefer the controls for.

If you are sitting in front of the TV anyway, why not try one of the many WiFi mouse apps.

eg: Monect Portable, Remote Mouse or WiFi Mouse

I use unified remote, it basically acts as a wireless keyboard and mouse for your PC as well as having specific remotes for various programs (like VLC ect)

Splashtop is the best I've used but it costs. I use that on my own PC's and Teamviewer to connect to the parents
