Reality is for people with no imagination....
1) use a better free antivirus, e.g. go to www.freeav.com
2) stop using Internet Explorer as your web browser
3) install _ALL_ security updates, yes that includes XP service packs
ok all of what directhex is true apart from number 1 avg is good av especially now the free version is version 7.
He did however miss the most obvious of all, USE A FIREWALL.
Many free ones do a google.
When attempting to unkludge trojanish nasties, if your OS is XP (Home OR Pro), remember to disable system restore BEFORE attempting removal. Then run AVG and Spybot and see whether that improves matters.
Here is a good one, shifted previously unmovable trojans from the inlaws rig. Get avast antivirus. Install it, update it and tell it to run a scan on next boot. It scans your PC before XP fully boots. It shifted stuff other AV couldnt reach.
Would booting into safemode and then doing the above suggestions work, if they didnt work in normal boot? Might be worth a try if the suggestions above dont work.
Safe mode would cause a minimal set of drivers to be loaded, but if the trojans have got themselves installed as protected files, then safe mode without disabling system restore won't help much.
i thought grisoft were stopping free dat upgrades for the free versionOriginally Posted by daniel_owen_uk
No, as of December 31st they will no longer be releasing database updates for the previous versions of AVGFree, since they will only be supporting v7 of AVGFree.Originally Posted by 5cupa

Yeah...the key thing is the system restore disabling. Do that first. W/restore disabled, reboot in safe mode. Then run AVG and Spybot.
Don't forget the AVG Free v7 is still in beta.
Bored of the old one, new one coming soon
Actually it's final now... http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php :Originally Posted by poolking

~ I have CDO. It's like OCD except the letters are in alphabetical order, as they should be. ~
PC: Win10 x64 | Asus Maximus VIII | Core i7-6700K | 16GB DDR3 | 2x250GB SSD | 500GB SSD | 2TB SATA-300 | GeForce GTX1080
Camera: Canon 60D | Sigma 10-20/4.0-5.6 | Canon 100/2.8 | Tamron 18-270/3.5-6.3
ummm... nothing happens.. when im in safe mode and disabled system restore.. avg detects 1 trojan instead of 21 , and when i try normal mode with disabled system restore it recognizes the 21 trojans but i cant delete heal or even place them in the virus vault.. it says "no action required in the selected objects", or something like that
