    Nero and netwroks

I use nero to burn all my CD's and DVD's

    - but ive recently run into major problems as i seems so simply refuse to alow my to burn file that are on the network

    - so at the momnet, to back-up my file im having to copy huge swaths of files onto my desktop (where nero can see them) and the burn those onto CD/DVD

    - surely there a better way of doing this

    thanks, daniel

It's generally a good idea to copy files locally before burning to a CD/DVD (indeed it used to be the only way before buffer under-run protection became commonplace) since a CD must be written in one continuous process, and networks are often not capable of guaranteeing the required level of data throughput to keep up with a high speed CD/DVD burner. Now that buffer under-run protection is commonplace, its not so critical, but you shouldn't really rely on it, sine it doesn't stop errors in the CD being written, just makes the errors small enough that they SHOULD be correctable by the built-in error correction of CD readers. If you value the data you're writing, then you should not rely on this.

So, no idea why Nero refuses to burn network files, but it's probably doing you a favour by ensuring the integity of the CDs that you're burning.

I suppose, but its just painfull drag n droping 4BG of files (takes ten minutes) and then burning the DVD, which takes another 28/30minutes

    - does anyone know if nero will work with mapped network drives, ie if i map the shared folder as a network drive in in "my computer"

well, i found out form *another place* that you can just drag and drop the files from a folder into the nero window, just like normal - can beleave i havnt tryed that before, but anyway, it works fine - and there an option to "cache files from disk or netowork to the HDD before the burn" - or not bother
