With 64mb of RAM, I wouldn't try to load XP on there - it probably run extremely slowly, so you're better of sticking to 98SE.

Yup, I've seen XP running on a 1.4ghz with 128mb Ram and it's pretty crappy.
Slows down and takes ages to boot into windows itself, best to have Xp Running with 256mb, it seems XP is more Ram dependant than processor requirement. Xp Runs much better on a 1ghz P4 with 256mb of Ram I find than on my aunts 1.4ghz P4 with 128 in a 4x 32mb stick configuration

If you got the ram tho, XP is deffo the best OS you can get atm

You can try the usual, Turn off Themes, stick to windows classic look, turn off system restore, windows time, messenger, and other fancy stuff / useless services and you might just get away with it...

was hoping to try it as a project but think I will stick to 98se

Just confirmed my thoughts cheers guys !

jsut put 98se on and all looks good although cannot change screen resolution (stuck at 640 x 480 atm! on standard PCI graphics adapter VGA) or get modem installed. Will hook it up to my network and see if win update picks them up ....

Other wise where is the best place to get Lt Winmodem drivers and drivers for the crappy graphics ?

google dont seem to help much as its too old

I ran XP on a 700mhz PIII and 128mb RAM and i dont remember it being bad at all, i used that for a year or two. It could have done with more RAM but it did still run photoshop so i guess it wasnt too bad.

    64mb is pushing it though

if u are not happy with xp, 2000 pro is a decent try, not as power hungry, altho 128 wud be needed (in my opinion)

i prefer 2000 to xp, and doesnt take over my pc!
