    Angry Cedega... Grrrrr!!!

    Bah! Not having much luck with Cedega.

    Operation Flashpoint GOTY - fails to install on CD3 (seems to be a common issue looking at the transgaming site). Tried copying over a windows install, but then complains about incorrect activation code - presumably a registry setting somewhere?

    Call of Duty - installs but won't run (get error about debugger detected).

    That's about eight hours so far, and zero progress at all

    The most frustrating thing is that I'm sure that the games would run. Its just the installation and copy protection code that's messing it up.

    Please, someone, suggest me something that will definitely run under Cedega and is happy with less than bleeding edge hardware (Athlon 850 + GeForce 3) so that I don't feel my 18quid transgaming subscription was a total waste of money!

    half life 1 games run fine (performance can be iffy w/ source engine), as do the gta games, far cry is fine on a 2.4 kernel, diablo 2 & starcraft were happy, system shock 2 && the thief games work now bar the movies...

    it does run stuff, you sound like you've just had a run of bad luck.

    a dodgy linux distro doesn't help, some popular distros have funny kernel etc defaults that break under cedega

    Don't you go insulting my beloved Gentoo!! you Debian fan, you!

    Since found that CoD multiplayer works fine. Just the singleplayer complains about detecting a debugger. wierd! Can't run the 1.4 update - it reports CoD install not found. Which suggests that there's something wrong with the CoD install even if MP works.

    Can't be bothered to install HL1 - I've only just recovered from a nasty bout of CS addiction that took three years to clear up!!!

    May have a go with GTA-whateverthelatestversioniscalled.

    edit your system.reg, add somewhere:

    [SOFTWARE\\Activision\\Call of Duty]
    "InstallDrive"="D:"
    "InstallPath"="C:\\Program Files\\Call Of Duty"
    "Language"="1"
    "Version"="1.1"

    that will fix the patch

    OK, OK, calm down. I got a bit excited for a sec, but it's still not working...

    Really weird, edited system.reg as suggested above, patched CoD to 1.4, applied noCD patch. CoD now starts up fine.

    But... when I try and play, it won't recognise the keyboard at all. Had to reboot PC to stop it. Multiplayer still fine, though. Weird!

    hm, odd

    i just ran through the single-player training level no trouble

    a crack isn't needed, by the way - just make sure the installedpath bit of system.reg is right, and that your /dev/whatevercddrive is a+r

    Aha! Progress. CoD works in a window, but not fullscreen. Maybe a problem with a USB keyboard? Ah well.. I can claim my first Cedega success, but not exactly a smooth process.

    I'll install GTA:Vice City next week, and actually have a bash at playing it, since I've had it for ages and never even got around to installing it under Windows yet.

    CoD serial

    Your fix solved part of the problem for me, too. Thanx

    But...
    Now, it keeps telling me there is no valid cd key. I type in the number, click verify, and it says the key is ok. But when I restart the game, key is no longer in the box. It never asked for the key during install... I guess cd is supposed to be saved somewhere, but mine is not. I tried both 1.4 and 1.5 patch and I get the sam error with both. Any hints?

    i'm not sure, it didn't seem to care in the single-player and i only played multiplayer once.

    might there be a file in the Call of Duty folder with the cd key stored in it?

    There is 'validatekey.dll' or something similar, but that file exist only in my windows CoD folder. I copied it to the linux install but nothing changed. I may have failed to explain that my key is excepted and verified and I can play the game, both SP and MP (although it never asked for the key during install). The problem is with updating it. Both patch install programs (1.4 & 1.5) report the invalid key problem. When I restart the game, the key disapears from the boxes, so I guess it is not saved where it is supposed to be saved, wherever that is... I looked for a file wher the key might be stored, and I found the multiplayer options file, but no key in it. All the servers upgraded to 1.5....
