Best Password Manager for pc/mac and android phone/tablet

    Hey all,

After my twitter account was hacked over christmas I have decided that using a password manager may make things a bit more secure(My password was pretty secure but I am a bit lazy in changing them on a regular basis.)

With that In mind I was wondering which is the current best password manager ? I use windows/linux at home, Mac osx in work and then android on my tablet and phone so ideally I'd like to be able to use the manager on each platform.

Afte a bit of a research Lastpass seems to be a very popular choice with review sites but I'd like to know what my fellow hexites think of it? Any other suggestions?

I really like Secret Server from thycotic.com

The "online" version is quite pricey (over 100 secrets starts at $50/month!) but if you have some hardware you can throw it on (it requires SQL Server), the yearly express fee at $10 is a bargain.

I'd also include using 2-factor authentication where available. I certainly know it's available for Facebook, Twitter, Google etc.

I've used LastPass for a few years now and I couldn't do without it any more.

Free for almost everything except mobile devices which require premium at $12 a year. Highly recommended.

Another vote for lastpass from me, I use it all the time well worth the $12. It also has a 2 factor mode.

I also recommend and use LastPass. Been running it for over a year now on PC and phone, works really well.
I subscribe to the LastPass/Xmarks bundle, wouldn't be without it

Consider 1Password too, I believe the iPhone app maybe free. Have used mSecure for a number of years been pretty good.

Re: Best Password Manager for pc/mac and android phone/tablet

I've never really looked at password managers before. I'm tempted from the security pov but what happens when you are on a 'guest' computer and don't have the extension installed? (talking lastpass here) - Do you have to log into the lastpass website to get the password?

For me that is fine, I can work around things like that but I was thinking more about my GF. I would be tempted to sign her up to something like this because shes an idiot. She uses 1234143345345221 different e-mail addresses and passwords for the 123123325234412323453245 things she signs up for and then gets into a strop when she can't remember the combo she used for that site but the inconvenience of having to log into a different website to get that password wouldn't be seen as a good trade off to her

Dashlane (premium) and 2FA where possible is what I use.

When I'm on a guest computer, I tend to use the LastPass app on my phone to look up the password, as I always have my phone with me.
Yeah, you could logon to the lastpass site to look it up as well, I do that sometimes.
Not trialed this with the wife, she's also an idiot but I reckon she could handle it if she could be bothered.

I think I'll sign up and give it a go, once I'm all setup and happy I'll demo it to her and see if she likes the idea or not

+1 for 1Password, I love Lastpass on my pc and laptop, but couldn't get on with it on my iOS devices (I don't think this was entirelessly Lastpasses fault, as Apple doesn't allow access to certain features to other companies) so had a look around and came up with 1Password.
Which I find easy and intuitive to use.

Re: Best Password Manager for pc/mac and android phone/tablet

I've been using 1password for a couple of months on iOS, it's free there. Very neat app.

A colleague showed me Dashlane and it has some features that 1password does not have, most notably, access to your passwords via a web login, and 1-click multiple password change across popular websites (impressive feature).

But I think Apple promote 1password more and it will get more integrations than dashlane so I'm torn.

I'm giving last pass a go now

I've started the process of getting all my accounts copied accross now (its amazing how many you seem to accumulate over the years.)
