And last put not least, if once live the code for some reason breaks, if you have written the HTML yourself, you will know exactly what it is doing.

I've seen some of the appaling excuses for Javascript that Dreamweaver comes up with, and if you've developed using this then its never going to be able to be fixed by the person who built it, as they will likely have NO idea what its doing.

Its imo one of the things wrong with the IT teaching industry. People shouldn't be taught about products, they should be taught the technology.

Don't teach SQL Server, teach Databases.
Don't teach Dreamweaver, teach HTML and Javascript

The issue for the most part is if someone doesn't know what is available to them. If you know that there is a function in HTML that does a flip of a graphic from one to another, then you can find it in a product.

    just my 2p

NO serious web developer would use dreamweaver in their work. Not one. It is simply not good enough.
I was simply quantifying the statement. Dreamweaver is very good when used properly

But you aren't using it for what it has been designed for. It is designed as a WYSIWYG editor.

Naw, i doubt that. If it was purely designed as a WYSIWYG editor then why do they have code view? It's good for auto-completing tags if you want to speed up your coding. Personally I don't use it, i use notepad but if you already know the syntax then what's the harm in using code view so it auto-completes your tags and attributes for you?

There's nothing wrong with Dreamweaver. If you're adept with the various Web code and scripts, why not use it? It's more like an IDE then a WYSIWYG editor. Although the comments you're teacher made are rediculous, it is only GCSE level however.

Yeh that's what i thought, when you go up in the world the teaching methods are more professional. Our lecturers RECOMMEND us an IDE. They don't say we have to use it but the majority of us still do anyway and have become familiar with it. You still get people like that in the professional world though

Dreamweaver may have started out as a WYSIWYG editor but that's just a minor part of the product now. If you haven't used the latest MX 2004 version then it may come as a pleasant surprise, particularly if you work as part of a team.

But surely, if you're teaching people web design, do you advise them to use a WYSIWYG editor (if they are actually going to be releasing them and getting paid for them)?

I aint gonna rebel, i'm just venting my anger.

All i'll do is write my website in Textpad at home and then do my write up (and look like im using dreamweaver during class) as if I used Dreamweaver...

hehe, that's one way to do it. I did a web design unit, showed how i could use notepad, did all the documentation and got something like 69/70 marks for it. Same applied for my digital art unit

r1zeek what course are you doing exactly?

I personally wouldnt want to use notepad for hand coding, i need colours, line numbers, bracket jumping and the like.... I like Primal script but i guess it much like any other one out there... there are loads of free scripting progs on download.com

Anyway, just do what you have to do to get the marks.

Remember those that can do and those that cant teach..... at school.

Heh, that's a lie. You don't go and do a course and not know what it is. I've done a course in ICT, it was an AVCE. Are you at college? (mind you that's probably wrong since colleges/schools are different where i come from) If so it'd either be a GNVQ or an AVCE.

I believe he said GCSE earlier, hence why I said what I did
