Post Windows Media Center - not coming to Windows 10

Recently confirmed by a Microsoft engineering manager WMC is dead and W10 will simply include DVD support (whoopee!). Reported Here

While I've always liked WMC (up to Win 7 at least) the lack of upgrades and enthusiasm was clear from the get go especially in the UK market.
Now that everything is becoming stream based, you'd think MS would adapt accordingly.
I feel this is 1999 tablets repeating itself.

Does anyone use MCE still? Do you have a dedicated HTPC with Tuner?

Re: Windows Media Center - not coming to Windows 10

I did have one that I used to run for a long time using Windows 7 and a dual tuner Hauppage PCI tuner. Connected it to my home network where my HP microserver was and DVD backups, and spent a long time getting films etc all bitstreaming through to my connected amp for film surround etc.

Loved it. Had to ditch it for convenience when I moved house this year and just have a Virgin Tivo box, but I loved the guide, the overlays and the ability to get to my music, films, and pictures simply on the 10ft interface. I even used it for sky sports when there was the ability to add it into the interface.

Personally think that its the best thing they had done for ages, but doesn't seem that they wanted to. Shame really.

Re: Windows Media Center - not coming to Windows 10

I use WMC extensively in conjunction with MediaBrowser.

We have known since Windows 8 released that the next major version wasn't going to have WMC, so this isn't a surprise in any way and is reflected by the work that WMC-plugin teams have been creating over the last couple of years.

MediaBrowser has already decoupled itself from WMC for the backend and offers additional front-ends....I am sure it's the same for other WMC "plugins"

I stopped using it to watch live tv a while ago, I found it to be a bit hit-and-miss with satellite cards.
