Is it easier just to upgrade or just do a clean install and get rid of 98 completely ?
Also will I need a 98 boot disk for the cd rom support at all ?

clean install.
No need for a 98 Boot disk,
You go into BIOS and change the order of boot up to start at CD ROM
Then boot with the XP disk in....it'll ask....you choose to hit a key to start up from CD
When it asks what to do, (F8 to begin) delete all current partitions, and then ask t install XP on the main (now desolate) HDD>
It will want to Format the HDD and you need to choose NTFS thorough...not Quick.
It'll take time.
then it'll install XP for ya after its done
when it wants to reboot to continue, you change BIOS back to boot from floopy first (empty) and the Hard Drive (now with XP on it) and then CD ....as normal
If you are not there when it reboots it will simply wait 30 seconds (for you to choose to boot from CD) and thrn carry on with booting from HDD anyway

Definately a clean install. That way, you shouldn't have any problems.
