i had to put the win7 32 os on another pc and activated it and have now removed it so its unregistered again but now cant activate my 64 os on my server as i had to replace the hdd in it.
it is a retail copy of 7 so cant work out why it will not activate and just brings up the option screen.
do i have to ring them??
When you say "option screen" what exactly does it say? Sounds like you may have triggered a phone activation, but if that's the case and you have a retail copy then so long as you only have it installed on one machine then you'll be fine with a phone activation.
Just to confirm though: this is a single license, single install? A retail license doesn't allow 1 32 bit and 1 64 bit at the same time.
yes single install just i had to put the 32 os on the back up pc till i got a new hdd for the server.
32 os now deactivated on back up pc just will not activate the 64 os back on the server and get they buy new licence, activate buy phone ect.
Probably need to call MS. It's automated and doesn't take long. I always find it a bit irritating though. Be sure to choose the option for having done it before, otherwise it might perhaps take a lot longer when the voice explains things more.
For temporary installs, just do slmgr.vbs -rearm every 30 (60? I can't recall) to get 120-odd days of "genuine" before it refuses to rearm again. Even when it does go non-genuine, I've never found it particularly annoying.
