Can't download Windows 7 usb
I just recently completed my first build My motherboard is an Asus Maximus VIII Gene my case doesnt have an optical drive so i created a bootable usb all my ports are usb 3.0 so when I try to install windows it wont show my hard drives I have enabled legacy but there has been no difference help much appreciated
Re: Can't download Windows 7 usb
Just to clarify, does the PC go through POST and allow you to enter the BIOS by pressing Del or F2 during the POST process.
If you are able to get into the BIOS you should be able to see your hard drives and the connected USB in the BIOS and set the BIOS to boot from USB in order to start the installer where you can format the hard drives and prepare them for Windows to be installed. If the USB is not letting you boot you need to check that you have created a bootable installer, it's not enough to copy the files from a DVD image, you need to use something like the Windows Media creator or a Linux bootable USB media creator that will download a bootable installer from Microsoft's website or create a bootable installer using a Windows ISO image.
Re: Can't download Windows 7 usb
I am able to enter my BIOS after it boots from the usb I am able to choose the language but the following page always says A required driver is missing
Re: Can't download Windows 7 usb
It may be that you need to find out what driver isnt included in the windows media, as it sounds like a driver for your hdds or something similar could be stopping it, normally you have an option to add drivers on the screen where you select the partition?
Re: Can't download Windows 7 usb
I've downloaded the usb3.0 drivers from asus I'm following some tutorial that involves me using cmd
Re: Can't download Windows 7 usb
Okay, I can check this over if you can let me know where you found it?
If not let me know if you have any other issues and ill be glad to help.
Re: Can't download Windows 7 usb
I used this link http://www.pixelstech.net/article/14...3-0-ports-only i've managed to get on to the next section meaning it worked but now when I try have windows 7 install onto my ssd it states Windows cannot be installed to this disk
Re: Can't download Windows 7 usb
I just checked the specs on your mobo, this is what I found, on this page it states that you have:
- 2x USB 3.1 (Type A + Type C)
- 8x USB 3.0
- 4x USB 2.0
So you should be able to use one of the USB 2.0 ports, if not then it would be a matter of doing what you're doing in terms of adding the driver as stated above using the link from pixelstech.
I'm curious though, is it not possible to disable the USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 features in the BIOS, install the OS and then re-enable them so you can install the drivers post Windows installation. It might be easier than trying to create an installer with the drivers slipstreamed into the ISO.
Re: Can't download Windows 7 usb
Managed to sort it followed the tutorial of the link I stated above then just changed the boot priority so windows 7 is downloading as we speak thanks for everyone's help
Re: Can't download Windows 7 usb
Cool. Hopefully everything is all good now and you'll be up and running before I've finished my dinner.
Re: Can't download Windows 7 usb
Yeah definitely, weird how win7 wont install from usb3... you think theyd have fixed the drivers for that a while agoo!
Re: Can't download Windows 7 usb
was going to say... win 7 (install disc) doesn't support usb3, but skylake doesn't support usb2. i read that asus has a utility that allows you to add driver support to win 7 installer via usb. have a look at the manual/cds that came with the asus mobo.
