Microsoft MAPS vs MSDN vs TechNet

    Hi All,
Hoping someone can shed some light on the differences. I've been a MAPS subscriber previously, but that only gives access to the latest and greatest versions and a number of end customers have all sorts of odd combinations of older tech (some going back to XP) which I may need to mock up in a VM.

Does anyone have a definitive list of what each of the above costs and includes? I've not found a clear page listing what is available.

    Cheers....

You can't buy Technet any longer, so it's basically down to MAPS vs MSDN. MSDN gives you pretty much everything (so long as you buy the correct tier for your needs) back to XP days - I can't get Win2k off there any more, though - I think that once XP ends final extended support (or whatever they're calling the abomination stage that it's in) it'll fall off MSDN also.

Actually you can get way further back, you can get Windows 3.1 and MS-DOS 6.2 if you want it.

You can't get Windows 2000 because it contains the Sun JVM and Microsoft weren't allowed to keep distributing it.

Edit: forgot something sort of important.

Unless its changed, the MSDN is for Development purposes only, which includes testing of your own software, which is worth checking if you're using it for legitimate legal purposes.

I guess this can be closed now. I ended up going for another MAPS subscription. Not cheap, but it allows me to use all the software I need to......

    Regards....
