Windows Shutdown tool.

Hi there. I'm looking for a windows tool that will enable me to shut down the computer. Then reboot it without having lost any windows ive been using in that session, (similar to standby, but enabling me to reboot properly?) Is this sort of thing possible, or does anyone know how i'd do it?

Only thing i know of that come close is hibernation (on Win XP...and i believe 2K??). you can use hibernate mode instead of standby where the computer will store all the contents of ram to the hard disk then power down. (basically pause and shut down) in order to continue u will have to power on your computer again and it will resume windows from there you left it.

>Control Panel >Power Options>Hibernate (tab)>Check Enable Hibernation.

You will need as much free disk space as you have ram in order to use this function.

session saving? don't know of any feature to do it on windows, most linux window managers offer the option though

A program i used was 'PowerOff', its a free little app that gives you lots of stand-by/shutdown options from timed shutdowns to process monitoring so that it shuts down once a process is no longer active.
