    I Love ghost!

    Few weeks ago I bougt a new HD 'cos my old one was a little full, especially my windows partition which was only 5gb and squished full to bursting. The problem? How to enlarge that partition without re-installing anything?

    Answer I got a copy of Ghost and it worked first time better than I could have hoped. I just formatted a new ntfs partition onto the new disk as a slave. Ran Ghost clone partition->partition. Swapped the cables and jumpers round and bingo, it booted first time as if nothing had changed but Woot 25gb free space on my windows partition.

    Don't you just love it when software works as well or even better than you thought it should do, and is it just me or is this happening more and more (I'm sure five years ago software never ran first time without glitches)

    Ahh well, I never thought I'd say this but, Symantec, that's a brilliant product you just flogged me

    PS I am sorry for this post, but I'm easily pleased sometimes

    Prefer Drive image; It was so good, Symantec bought out Powerquest

    Loved the fact you could create a hidden partition and dump a recovery image in it; Or image without ever leaving windows.

    If you want to just resize your Window partition why don't use Partition Magic instead, much less effort.

    well there was no spare space on the old disk, so nowhere to expand to except a new disk.

    But more importantly, I had a copy of ghost I'd bought for backups, and wasn't going to shell out for partition magic.

    Out of curiosity, I gather partition magic is good at what it does, but is that just re-size and reformat partitions or does it do more?

    Create new partition, resize, distributed space amongst partititons, delete, convert formats,merge... you name it. This thing can do a hell lots of things, it's named Magic after all eh.

    Yeah ghost is one of my favourite programs too.

    have upsized from a 40 to an 80 then a 120gb drive just cloning the old hard drive onto the new and works first time.

    It copies my system files to a DVD also so when I want to mess about with, or am unsure about installing a program if all goes pear shaped can just use my ghost back up from the DVD to get me up and running got me out of a few scrapes I can tell you

    Acronis True Image for me - great piece of software, but their bootable version (required for restoring the OS partition) runs on Linux and as such doesn't like my RAID card.

    I'm working on my own windows based bootable version when I can find more time.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();
