    Mouse In Linux

OK I've just installed Mandrake 10.1 Official on my new computer. It all works very well, except the mouse. In the installation I chose the right mouse, and it worked until I rebooted and started Linux. So I went to the control panel type thing and chose the right one and it worked again. However, every time I reboot Mandrake seems to think I have a USB mouse when it is actually a normal PS2 one, and I have to change the setting to make it work every time.

So, is there any way I can force Mandrake to use the setting I tell it?

One thing, I am using a KVM switch, but this really should not make any difference.

    Thanks in advance.

the KVM may well be making a difference - try plugging the mouse into the machine directly when rebooting, see if it believes you about the ps/2 thing.

your mouse type is deifned by which device in /dev you ask to use. modern linux kernels have a /dev/input/mice device, which covers all mice plugged into the system into any port (to get rid of the silliness of needing to tell it what you use).

as to how to make mandrake obey, i dunno. i'm used to more hands-on distributions.

Save settings is save the current desktop layout - i.e. where all the windows are, etc.

As for your problem, perhaps manually look in your Xorg.conf file and see what it's saying in there. If you are having trouble understanding the file then look around google for a guide about it - it's fairly easy to get your head around.
