I did it yesterday as a matter of fact . I did start a thread about this, but no one replied to mine .

You can do it so long as you're both using windows XP. Get your friend to follow these instructions:

Go to start > help & support > "invite a friend to connect to your computer using remote assistance"

Then, "invite someone to help you" and when it loads, type your email address in the box at the bottom. After that a screen loads asking you to type a password into a box. Do this, but make sure you BOTH know the password. It will then attempt to send an email with an attachment using outlook express to your email box.

When you get the email, open the attachment (making sure the friend is also connected to the internet). This will then try to connect to your friends PC - it'll ask you for the password first. Then on your firends PC, a message will say "Wedge22 is attempting to connect to you PC - do you want to continue". get your firend to click yes.

You will then see your friends screen. To start interacting with their computer, click on the button in the top-left. I can't remember what it's called, but it's frairly obvious.

So long as you (and your friend) can use windows at a basic level, you should be fine. If I were you, I would attempt to connect to your own computer, just to make sure you can tell you friend which screen comes up when. It obviously won't be able to connect to you PC, but you'd get the basic idea of what your friend has to do. Go through the steps with him on a mobile as he's doing it (especially if he's a beginner) to make sure he's doing it right.

Good luck. BTW - I did it with my gradparents who only just brought their 1st PC a few weeks ago, so if I can instruct them over the phone, you'll be fine .

Probably the longest post I've ever done .

So did it work? Was my longest post ever worth it?
