    AutoCad

    Im doing design tech A-leval (in second year now) and the 3d software they have "prodesktop 2000i" is RUBBISH
    - it dosnt even work, all it will do it perform errors and ileagal op's!!


    So i was wondering how possable it would be for me/them to get a copy of autocad, i know its like about £2000 to buy, but are there any educational discounts avalable, or student copys?
    - i tryed looking autodesks site, but i can find anythink, and they havent replayed to my email!

    I believe Autocad is available in student licence form. I'll look into it for you.

    Got any CAD questions in relation to Autocad (2D) & ProEngineer/Solid Works 3D dont hesitate to ask matey.

    *Prodesktop 2000i is pants I agree. Try & get them to get Solid Works or Windchill.

    Theres a cheaper edition of autocad from memory se or something along that lines

    I have a friend who has just been made redundant. He did CAD and wants to keep his hand in, is it possible to get older versions cheap?? He currently has no computer but is looking at getting a 2nd hand rig, will ber around P3 800.

    I cant comment really on whats good or bad.. just what i have heard from others who
    do know. They tend to slate autocad. Like someone said above they like pro-e
    TurboCAD is supposed to be pretty good for the price ive heard.

    You cant knock Autocad in 2D. I've used it for the best part of 16 odd years & it's the de-facto 2D package for industry. Now, there's nothing wrong with Turbocad either. You gets what you pay for & if you're just farting around & doing the odd technical drwing it's just fine & dandy at what it does.
