    deleting stuff

when I want to delete something I'm getting an error message saying
"cannot delete file, check all programs using it are closed..." etc
its not being used anywhere but windows, in all its great wisdom, is still telling me I can't delete it
anyone know how to rectify this?

I have had that happen to me once and couldn't figure out which progs could be using it! In the end I just restarted Windows in Safe mode and deleted it then....

Have you tried going to through all the current Applications and Processes in Windows Task manager to see if anything in there might be using the file? If that doesn't help. try the safe mode option.

Yeah, Safe Mode is a good bet a lot of the time. Sometimes you can sneak by using the command prompt (don't ask me why, but it has worked a few times for me).

Restart your computer and try to delete it, if that dont work, restart in safe mode and delete it.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Command Prompt always does the trick for me if it still persists in safe mode.

get a program called tuneup utilities 2004 - in there - there is an alternative process manager (task manager) one tab shows open files and which process is holding the file open. Kill the process, delete the file.
    Thats all i do!
