    Just reinstalled XP....

....and cos Im a smart @rse I thought I'd just cut and paste all my important stuff to my SECOND SCSI drive which was already in and running......I HAD an Iwill 40mb/sec controller (drivers built into XP) and the NEW one I have to provide XP with driver for it on Install.

then I installed my new SCSI card....(Adaptec 160) and installed XP on my fastest HDD as usual......

but I CANT READ MY OTHER SCSI HARD DISK ..so all my stuff is on there.....

The SCSI card SEES it in the SCSI bios.....but once Windows tries to boot.....it gets stuck

Unplug that drive.....jobs a good un....boots up like lightning...

So without reinstalling the OLD card, and then reinstalling XP onto a SPARE HDD simply to get the old info off that HDD.....is it hidden forever?

ALSO....while I've got you suckered in here, you lovely reader, you......WHAT is GENERIC HOST PROCESS for WIN32 SERVICES?

No idea about the SCSI problem, sorry.

A little googling got me a PDF - http://www.blkviper.com/WinXP/Files/XPServices.zip - which says towards the bottom:

“Generic Host Process for Win32 Services”
This is what ZoneAlarm complains about while connected to the internet. “SVCHOST.EXE” is
“Generic Service Host.” What that means is it is a “host” for other processes or services. Check
this document starting on Page 4 to see “all” of the services that use SVCHOST.EXE as a front
    for something else.
If you then look up at said page 4 it has a table of services, with about 50 which use svchost.exe as a front-end. Hope that helps...
