Is software like this even needed any more.

I found this website by accident and saw this software - http://ram-booster.chris-pc.com/

It made me chuckle. I remember using similar software like this on windows 98, when i had 256mb ram on my Pentium 3.
Redundant software nowadays. Still charging $15 for it.

I seem to remember it was just as dubious back in the Windows 98 days as it is today.

There was the occasional requirement to manually manage memory in DOS systems with more than 640KB but I don't recall any windows system ever benefiting from this sort of thing.

Yes modern windows has for a very long time used 'free' memory as a disk cache. I think there may have been possibly some benefit to software such as this (probably not this specific software) over a decade ago but it's time has long passed. I did fall for it though, for a while, quite a while ago - like there used to be a sort of 'game mode' software that would shut down lots of windows features and services to get you like 1% more framerate or whatever.

Snake oil even in the dos 6.X era when MS included MemMaker to manage extended/expanded memory.

    Before that I used QEMM.

    Now I feel old.

I had something similar for Windows 98 - saved having to restart as things lingered in memory far too long. Maybe some snake oil back in the day? Didn't cost me a penny then whatever it was I used...

    Well given current memory prices...

But as others have said, snake oil.

Re: Is software like this even needed any more.

Better software is something like Razer Cortex Game Booster, this closes open apps and services and you get to customise what it closes and does.

Don't forget you can download more RAM making all of these redundant.
