So does XP have built-in support for Bluetooth devices?

I dont like the 3rd party software that came with my USB bluetooth adapter, im trying to make it work good with my mobile but i have a hard time. I've yet to make a connection possible with MobiMB.

Anyone know a fair bit about this?

XP SP2 comes with bluetooth integration but sp1 does not. you have to use 3rd party drivers, which in my experience hasnt worked to well.

I think I have SP2 now, should i just plug it in and try to let windows handle it?

Also, if it doesnt work does that mean i have a crappy adapter and should get a better one?

What he said, but be advised the support is not completely comprehensive; I have an Actiontec USB jobby which isn't supported, but the Truemobile 300 adapters in my Dell Latitude D600s are.

I'm having a nightmare with my Bluetooth.

Got XP SP2, a Belkin Bluetooth dongle and a Sony Ericsson K700i.

Windows finds the Belkin, all drivers install ok, the phone finds the PC when I activate Bluetooth on it, the PC finds the phone ok...

BUT I CANT TRANSFER DATA FROM ONE TO THE OTHER !!!

I know it worked before my PC upgrade cos I put songs on but now all I get is an error message on ther PC...

I found bluetooth worked flawlessly with SP1 with 3rd party drivers, went to SP2 and it died a horrible death

My experience also; I kept getting licensing errors, stack server errors, the whole schmear. XP's native BT doesn't like it, and the last update to the Actiontec drivers was in 2003, so not much help there. I've tried hacked versions of later WIDCOMM drivers but no dice. I HATE the damn thing.

The problem occurs when you have the Widcomm drivers installed, then upgrade to SP2. If you uninstall the Widcomm drivers, then plug your Bluetooth adapter back in, it should use the SP2 drivers and work with no problems.

i haven't read all the posts but SP2 should support it, download all the latest Win Updates, with your bluetooth dongle pluuged in - it'll find a driver hopefully (although Microsoft sometimes find one that 'works' adaquatly but not well.

    I FIXED IT !!!

    Oh yeah baby

Dont know if this will help you guys out at all, but Belkin put a note on their support page about SP2 and Bluetooth

    http://www.belkin.com/uk/support/tech/BT-WINXPSP2.pdf

It basically says install your driver, then Windows ignores it and uses its own anyway so you have to force it into it. Not sure if it would help if your Drivers are Signed but it fixed my prob straight away !!

Only thing now is that I have to do it every time I unplug my dongle, gee thanks Bill... grrr...

I found some hacked drivers for my MSI dongle (FMA forums) that allow a straight install into SP2. Getting FMA to talk to my T68i it is so much easier now than all the virtual com port business I used to have to use. Also rock solid reliable, I believe its a foxcon dongle underneath.

I just let XP take care of it, then in FMA choose the "Windows XP Native Bluetooth" or whatever it says. This is after removing all the previous drivers and having the dongle unplugged.

However, this is using a v2 Belkin dongle, my previous MSI one gave me hassle (like most of my MSI stuff)
